Marriage Ministry

Statistical research now indicates that the divorce rate inside the church has surpassed that of the secular world. We are no longer surprised, (though we should be), to hear the divorce rate in the church nationwide has exceeded 50%.

Here in Ozaukee County the divorce rate has skyrocketed to an astounding 60%. That means that 60% of the couples marrying today will not stay married. But additional statistics indicate that among those couples that don’t divorce, 25% of them either separate and never divorce, or live together in misery.

We believe God is reaching out to husbands and wives to bring healing to the hurting, enrichment to the willing, and instruction to the engaged. He is calling us to found our marriages on His biblical principles.

We believe that God has called us to begin the Marriage Ministry at Alliance Bible Church to help to build marriages that are a reflection of Christ, (the Groom), and his church, (the Bride), as explained in Ephesians Chapter 5. Our hope is to work with couples in all walks of their marital relationships in an effort to help them realize Christ centered, biblically based marriages.

Our desire is to help couples get back on a healthy track after experiencing years of marital drift. We want to show couples going through seemingly impossible situations that God can bring healing and restoration and that He has a rich and intimate plan for their marriage.

We want to turn couples away from divorce and show them the road toward hope. Our plan is to offer activities and retreats that facilitate growth and enrichment, and be an encouragement to all couples to find the closeness and intimacy that God desires for them.

After 17 years of marriage, God called Shannon and I, (Doug), into this ministry. He provided the vision and aligned us with other couples, with a diversity of backgrounds, that have become Marriage Mentors with a passion to fulfill God’s vision for this ministry.

To complement their years of marital experience, we offered the Marriage Mentors video training with topics ranging from marital enrichment, communication and conflict resolution, to dealing with past hurts, handling marital secrets, and working through marital drift. A full library of very topic specific resources is available to the Marriage Mentors for further study including helping couples through affairs, addictions, and abuse.
